On Monday, March 20, ANC 3C held its regular meeting in the MPD 2D Community Room. More than two dozen residents attended the meeting to learn more about Pepco’s rate increase request currently in the trial phase before the Public Service Commission.
Marc Battle, Vice President, Pepco Region for the District of Columbia, gave an overview of Pepco’s $76.8 million distribution rate request. Laurence Daniels, Office of the People’s Counsel Director of Litigation, shared OPC’s position on the rate increase request, which included OPC’s efforts to ensure Pepco’s profit level is reasonable, advocating that only projects providing service and reliability benefits should receive cost recovery, and protecting consumers from being made to pay for executive perks.
Among the concerns raised by Ward 3 consumers were; how the $25.6 million fund held by the DC Public Service Commission might be dispersed among customer groups, the reasonableness of Pepco’s requested rate of return, and the projected individual billing increase they would pay should the request be approved. Background information about the rate case was distributed to meeting attendees. Attorney Daniels encouraged them to provide testimony at the PSC’s Community Hearing on April 12.
